  • Pocklington Canal Head lies just off the A1079 road. There is a car park and picnic area with an information board. This section of the canal is very attractive as it is overhung by trees on its eastern side.
  • A nine-and-a-half-mile waterway flowing from Pocklington to East Cottingwith via Melbourne, which hosts frequent boat trips. No longer in use, Canal Head is now a favoured picnic spot and a site of special scientific interest.

Features of Interest

  • At Pocklington Canal there are five locks within a distance of 1 1/2 miles. Silburn, Giles and Sandhill locks are just three of those illustrated on the notice board. There are also simple illustrations of the wildlife and plant species to be found. Pipistrelle bats, spotted burnet moths, meadow rue and redshank can all be seen along the path.
