Pocklington is delighted to have been awarded the 'Walkers are Welcome' status. We are preparing information for a full feature on the walking aspects of the town and surrounding area which will appear shortly.

At the Pocklington Town Council meeting held on Wednesday 15th December 2010 Jo Green, the co-ordinator of the sustainable transport initiative of the Gateway Project, presented the Town Mayor Councillor Martin Cooper with the recently awarded 'Walkers are Welcome' certification.  Pocklington is one of only 55 towns in the country to be awarded this distinction.  The Walkers are Welcome organisation encourages towns and villages to actively promote facilities for walkers.  The AGM of the organisation is to be held in Market Weighton next year which should attract walkers to the area.
