Visit to Pays de Racan, July 2011

Although exchange visits between Pocklington's Country Dance Group and Pays de Racan's Danseux du Nais have sadly been discontinued the French dance group were happy to receive a visit from six members of Pocklington's dance club.  Isabel & Barry Malin, Cathy & Mel Doran and Sheila & Stuart Powell travelled by Eurostar and TGV to Tours where they were met by their hosts. An action packed few days followed. Visits were made to the Château du Clos Lucé at Amboise, home for many years of Leonardo de Vinci and where models of many of his drawings had been constructed. Also in Amboise we were treated later that evening at the Château Royal to a "spectacle", local people enacted key scenes from the town's history. We were able to visit Le Mans and the museum and forest at Bercé and to witness part of stage 7 of the Tour de France between Le Mans and Châteauroux with all is attendant support vehicles and sponsors. We were delighted to be welcomed by the Danseux du Nais at St Christophe where gifts were exchanged, followed by an extensive buffet meal and, of course, a dance.  It is hoped that at least some members of the Danseux du Nais will be able to visit Pocklington in the near future.
