On Sunday 20th December 2009 the 'Carols with the Mayor' event took place around the Christmas tree in Pocklington Market Place.   A good number of people gathered to sing along with the Woldgate College Band  who provided the music  for the Christmas carols.  Before the  concert the  Mayor of Pocklington Councillor David Sykes presented prizes for the ' Best Dressed Window Competition' .  'Help the Aged ' were awarded first prize for their original display, Celebrations were second and Pocklington Service Station third.  Highly commended certificates were awarded to Allsorts, Maynews, C&N Wines, Bunty & Co and Simply Books.  During the event it began to snow heavily and it is a great tribute to the musicians and those attending that they braved the elements so well.  A most enjoyable afternoon was completed by mulled wine and mince pies being offered at Pocklington Arts Centre.  A collection raised £93 for the Mayor's Charity -  Yorkshire East Riding Volunteer Accident & Emergency Service.
