On Tuesday 13th July 2010 Yorkshire in Bloom judges, Sheila Johnson & Martin Smith, visited Pocklington to judge the town in the town section of the regional competition. The visit started with a call to Pocklington Infants School where the judges met with the 'Gardening Gang' who had won a young gardener of the year competition at Harlow Carr, Harrogate. Youngsters at the school grow a variety of vegetables and flowers and are really keen to promote nature conservation.  A visit was then made to Pocklington Allotments where they were shown two winning entries for the annual competition.  A tour was then taken of the town which included the well tended gardens on Sherbuttgate and Betterton Court.  Judges were then taken to view the floral displays in the church and memorial gardens before a brief visit to Pocklington School.  The winner of this years 'Front Garden' Competition, Gina Cambell, was presented with the rosebowl and certificate by the judges.  At the W.I. bed at the entrance to  Burnby Hall Gardens they were  met  by Barbara Vine and Linda Sykes.  The visit concluded with a tour of Burnby Hall gardens which are looking at their best with the water lillies in full bloom.  The results of the competition will not be known until September but we certainly did not disgrace ourselves.  Thanks must go to all those who helped with making such an impressive display.
