Local news: Successful march to resist parking charges in Pocklington

On Thursday 21st May 2009 over 200 people assembled in Pocklington Market Place and marched to the Rugby Club in protest against the plans by East Riding of Yorkshire Council to impose parking charges in car parks in the town.  The march to the rugby club coincided with the East Riding Authority holding a roadshow at the rugby club to explain their proposals.

The march was a good natured affair involving concerned residents, business people and families some of whom brought along their dogs.! The Town Cryer, Jeff Shearsby, officiated.  The march gave a clear indication to the East Riding Authority that local people are not happy with the proposed charges fearing an adverse effect on the viability of the town.
