Local news: Pocklington Infant School's Gardening Gang awarded 'Best in Show'
A gardening team from Pocklington Infants School came away with Best In Show at a Yorkshire Schools' gardening competition.
The competition took place at Harlow Carr in Harrogate and was run by The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).
The Pocklington entry was one of 12 taking part. The team had to design a garden that would fit inside a 1m x 1m pallet showing their love of gardening and imaginative ideas. Their label read:
"Pocklington CE Infant School's Gardening Gang wanted to show some of the fun and exciting things we do at our school.
- Growing fruit and vegetables to eat at dinnertime.
- Growing flowers and herbs to make to playground colourful, aromatic and attractive to children and wildlife.
- Creating a wildlife area with bird feeders, wild flowers, ponds, mini beasts' hotels and compost bins.
We never stop learning and we're happy!"
The children have been learning about minibeasts so they made some clay hedgehogs, a snail, a ladybird and a caterpillar to go in the garden and they weaved a butterfly and dragonfly and also a spider's web.
The gardens were judged by RHS gardeners and the general public during half term.
A school spokesperson said the school was "thrilled to bits" with the win.
