Pocklington and District Local History Group

The group aims to encourage the study of local history in the Pocklington area by the sharing of historical information. We do this by organising talks, works, and visit, maintaining a website, organising exhibitions and publishing leaflets and books. The events are open to all.

Programme of Events 2011/2012

Thur 20 October Thor Missiles at Full Sutton

Illustrated talk by Steven Oliver about the missiles based at Full Sutton.

Thur 17 November Aerial Photography for Local History Research.

Mike Pratt will show how research he has done at Bishop Wilton might be replicated at Pocklington

Thur 19 January Pocklington Canal

Paul Waddington of Pocklington Canal Amenity Society will give us a talk about the history of the canal.

Thur 16 February A workshop about the history of local food.

Looking at everyday food and special recipes for high days and holidays.

Bring memories, old kitchen utensils, recipes and samples if possible!

Thur 15 March Pocklington Field-walking Finds and coin identification

William MacKay will tell us about some Pocklington finds. In the second half of the evening he is offering to identify and value any coins, medals or tokens brought to the meeting.

Meetings at the Old Courthouse, George Street, Pocklington at 7.30pm unless otherwise specified. Admission £2
