'Pip' Jackson receives his award

The Pocklington Allotment Association second annual vegetable show was held on Saturday 20th August 2011 at The United Services Club in Pocklington.  The show was a great success this year with even more entries than last year!  The show was judged by Walter Fairburn of Dunnington there were 27 classes with points awarded to exhibits placed first, second and third by the judge.  The standard was high and there were some very fine examples of vegetables grown by plot holders on their allotments at The Mile in Pocklington.  Growers of winning vegetables received prize cards to mark their achievements.  The event was lots of fun with refreshments and home baking as well as lots of prizes being won on the tombola!  At 3.00 pm the Town Mayor Cllr Graham Perry presented the 'Annual Challenge Shield' to the overall winner of the vegetable show to Pip Jackson.  Pip worked very hard entering a staggering 23 out of 27 classes and his success was certainly very well deserved.  The Mayor also presented prizes for the annual allotment judging which took place in July 2011.  Keith Houseman won first prize (full allotment) for the third year running and the Mayor presented Keith with the winner's cup.

All in all the veg show was great fun for those entering the show and for those who came to see the exhibits.  The PAA committee would like to say a big thank you to all the allotment holders who took part and all those who helped organise and put on the show and donated tombola prizes and baking.  The committee would also like to say a special thank you to the United Services Club for providing a venue free of charge.   The committee will now start thinking about next year's show and we would love to hear suggestions from plot holders of how we can make next year's show even better!  If you have a suggestion please contact a committee member (contact details are advertised on the allotment site) or e-mail pockallotassoc@yahoo.co.uk
