The tragic news was received in the town on Friday 6th December 2009 that Serjeant Phillip Scott 30 years serving with the 3rd Battalion The Rifles was killed whilst carrying out a clearance operation in the town of Sangin in Afghanistan.  Phillip is the second son of Mike Scott and Diane Carr and has served in the army since 2001.

Phillip was brought up in Kilnwick Percy near Pocklington and attended local schools including Woldgate School.  He leaves a wife and two young children.
