Floods update - October 2009

After the floods of 2007 this council commissioned a report into the causes of flooding which was published later that year. The various recommendations made in the document have been accepted by the agencies and this council regularly meet to review progress. Already debris have been cleared from the culvert and a telemetry alarm is to be fitted in Jubilee Gardens to monitor flows and height of water but much work remains.

The Environment Agency are reluctant to dredge out gravel from both London Bridge and Canal Head where this council feels the main blockages are. We recently attended a regional meeting at Willerby where we put a good case to have Pocklington designated as one of the two trial dredging areas in the country. Whilst the meeting decided they would dredge Burstwick Drain they did promise to take a closer look at Pocklington’s needs.
