Local news: Floods hit Pocklington
During the morning of Monday 25th June 2007 the Pocklington beck which flows through the Pocklington Town Centre burst its banks resulting in flooding of the town centre area. Market Place, Railway Street, Pavement and West Green had to be closed with water over three feet high in places. The Environment Agency together with the East Riding of Yorkshire Council have been providing an emergency response to the situation.
The flood water receded almost as quickly as it came leaving the streets clear by Tuesday morning. A number of shops and offices in the town are now busy getting their premises back into action - but it is certainly 'business as usual' as far as this is possible.
The East Riding of Yorkshire Council have issued guidance for those affected by the floods which can be obtained by turning to page 'Flood assistance issued to residents' in the news item menu bar.
