Pocklington Town Council are taking the lead on making all of the local population and local businesses fully aware of the high cost and environmental impact of consuming energy inefficiently and/or excessively – and also of the opportunities for ‘self generation’ ie solar, wind turbines, etc.
As part of the informing process the council arranged for the launch of a ‘Energy Saving Initiative' for the town at Pocklington Arts Centre on Saturday 23rd January 2010. Exhibitors from the Energy Saving Trust, Gateway Project, Greengrass Recycling and WRAP demonstrated the benefits of saving energy. An interesting exhibit was an exercise cycle which, when pedalled, generated electricity to light various light bulbs. The faster you pedalled the more lights came on! Another popular exhibit was a driving simulator which measured how energy efficient your driving is. These two items will again feature in an exhibition to take place at Burnby Hall on 24th & 25th April.
